East Never Loses hosts curated Mahjong events for groups around LA (as small as 4 people and as large as 600!).
If you’re like me, and are curious about Mahjong but know almost nothing about it, East Never Loses teaches the Chinese style of the game, which is well-suited to social situations and can be learned quickly. Getting good is tricky, but getting started isn't.
You’ll begin with a 25-minute gameplay lesson, and from there, you’ll play four-player games alongside a guide to make sure everyone understands the game. Games take about 25 minutes, and players often swap in and out to get a bite or drink in between.
The whole experience lasts about 2 hours and can be brought to an office or hosted at a restaurant, which solves the food/beverage question. To play, you’ll need tables that are roughly 34 inches, square or round, and the team brings them if the venue doesn't have them.
I spoke with the super friendly founder, Angie, who shared the inspiring and very 2026 feeling, story of hosting Mahjong nights as a side hustle until it developed into a full-time gig (IG Reel recap of her journey).
She hosts events all over LA, including many corporate events (Netflix, Apple, Hennessy, Hammer Museum), so she understands the professional event dynamics. Her Insta gives a sense of Angie’s vibe and East Never Loses events.

$400 per table, which includes a Mahjong set and a guide for 2 hours.
One table is recommended for every 4-6 people, so players can swap in/out.
No travel charge unless the location is outside the city (ex. Long Beach, OC).

Added value: Squarely in the box of grandma hobbies that are having a cultural renaissance, a Mahjong experience is one of the things I’d genuinely love to do, and would, even more genuinely, love someone to organize on my behalf. I like it as an entertaining option since everyone can learn something new (or show off the skills they already have), and it flexes well for both introverted and extroverted personalities.
